On the border between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas, you will find beautiful beaches, some covered with pebbles, others in white sand, just waiting for you to explore them. Albania is a very diverse holiday destination that is also still an insider tip. That’s why you can almost always find a quiet spot to enjoy the Mediterranean sun on the many dream beaches, even in the high season. But see for yourself what beautiful beaches Albania has to offer.

Albania is a fairly young country, at least on the tourist map. The country borders Montenegro to the north and Greece to the south. Large parts of Albania are covered by mountains that rise up to 2,700 metres into the sky. Along the more than 470 kilometres of coastline, you will find long beaches as well as picturesque little bays. On large parts of the coast, the mountains almost reach the sea, which has given this region the nickname Albanian Riviera. So let yourself be enchanted by the Mediterranean climate and the breathtaking landscape. We’ll tell you where to find the most beautiful beaches in Albania.

From the long sandy beaches on the border with Montenegro to the beach with a view of Corfu – החופים של אלבניה are very diverse.
The beaches in this town, which is lively in the high season, are sometimes described as the “Caribbean of Albania”. The central beach in קסאמיל is covered in white sand and offers everything you need for a perfect day at the sea. From your lounger on the beach, you can look out over small islets in the sea, which you can reach by kayak or swimming. The atmosphere on the beach becomes truly magical when the sun sets behind Corfu in Greece, just two kilometres away.

If it gets too crowded on the main beach, no problem: there are several other bays around the seaside resort. The lidos are all privately run. You can hire sunbeds and umbrellas at most bays and you will also find the odd beach bar where you can quench your hunger and thirst. Even the more active among you won’t be bored on Ksamil beach, as there are plenty of ספורט ימי on offer.

The village of Dhërmi nestles at the foot of the mountains with its traditional white houses covered by orange-coloured roofs. At first glance, it appears to be a beautiful but sleepy place. This may be true out of season, but in summer you can enjoy a relaxing holiday here on several beaches, mostly covered in pebbles, or explore the mountains or a gorge while hiking.

The main beach of Dhërmi is bordered by a promenade, along which you will discover several restaurants, beach clubs and bars on a stroll. To the north of this is the pebble beach Palasa, which is known for its particularly clear water. Both beaches are quite long, so you can choose between lively beach life or peace and relaxation. In the evening, the beach bars on the promenade transform into chilled-out beach clubs where you can enjoy the balmy summer nights with a cocktail.

The next dream beach is just a few minutes’ drive further south, but despite its secluded location, it is a little better known and busier than Dhërmi. The crescent-shaped bay is bordered by hills on which olive trees grow, giving it a special flair. The azure blue water is particularly clear and is ideal for snorkelling. Boats leave from the beach to take you to hidden bays that you would otherwise only reach after a long hike.

As the water in the shore area is shallow, non-swimmers and children can enjoy a refreshing dip without any worries. Pretty parasols made from natural materials offer protection from the sun. Sunbeds are also available. Of course, you can also get a wide range of snacks and drinks on site, so that everything you need for a perfect day at the beach is available. In the evening, the beach and the surrounding area turn into a party mile, where celebrations are exuberant.

Livadhi Beach, like Jala and Gjipe Beach, is also located in Himarë and is considered one of the most natural and beautiful beaches in Albania. It is located just five minutes by car from the city centre and, in addition to the good location, also scores with affordable prices in the surrounding restaurants. The beach impresses with its white pebbles that shine in the sun. The sea is crystal clear here and shines in an enchanting turquoise colour. The beach is particularly popular with the locals and offers a rather tranquil ambience. Here, it’s all about enjoying a dip in the sea and the sun.

Livadhi attracts numerous swimmers in the high season. If you are looking for more peace and quiet, the end where the sand recedes and the shingle increases is more suitable. Borsh Beach is located near the village of the same name in the municipality of Lukove in the district of Saranda. We particularly recommend it if you are looking for relaxation in the midst of unspoilt nature. At 7 kilometres long, it is one of the widest beaches in Albania. For this reason, it is not overcrowded and you will always find a quiet spot to relax. It’s best to take food with you, as the tourist infrastructure is still underdeveloped.

On the other hand, Borsh beach is a delight with its natural charm. This is enhanced by the lush olive groves that border the coastline. Goats roam through the groves, perfecting the feeling of being on a pristine stretch of coastline. Borsh beach is the perfect excursion destination on the Albanian Riviera.

Sunbeds and parasols can be hired on site. In the evening, people meet here to enjoy the balmy summer nights with a stroll.

Another advantage is that you can park directly in front of the beach. It is therefore also suitable for people who cannot walk far. Despite all these advantages, the stretch of coast is never crowded. The village of Velipoja and its beach are located around 23 kilometres south of Shkoder in northern Albania. What makes this beach so special is the fact that it is surrounded by a לָגוּנָה and wetlands. It also has a considerable length of 10 kilometres, making it ideal for long walks with fantastic scenery. Seafood fans can look forward to a special treat, as this stretch of coast is known for its mussel farms.

As the beach slopes very gently, the water is pleasantly shallow so that children can splash around in the cool water without any worries. Even better: there is plenty of sand here and eager castle builders will get their money’s worth. However, this beach can get a little crowded in high season.

The more beautiful beaches are just a few steps away from the town. North of the seaside resort, whose name incidentally means St John, you will find a beautiful dune landscape at Rana e Hedhun beach, which has been a natural monument since 2002. When a country and its beaches are categorised as an insider tip, a few questions naturally arise. Here are a few answers.
In the north of the country, you will find beautiful beaches along the Adriatic coast. Many of them are even covered in sand. In the centre of the country, around Vlora and Himara, you will find pebble beaches with crystal-clear water against a breathtaking mountain backdrop. In the south, around Saranda, you will find Albania’s best-developed tourist beaches.
The most secluded beaches in Albania can be found near Himara. As the mountains here reach right up to the coast, many of the secluded bays are not so easy to reach. If you’re not afraid of the somewhat arduous journey, you’ll be greeted with plenty of peace and romance at Gjipe Beach.

If you like swimming against a breathtaking mountain backdrop, the beaches around Himara on the Albanian Riviera will amaze you. But the beach at Ksamil is also one of the most beautiful beaches in Albania with its islets off the coast and views of Corfu.

This small Balkan country is still a real insider tip. For a long time, it was hidden behind the “iron curtain” and not so easy for us to reach. Yet Albania really does have a lot of different things to offer. In addition to fascinating nature in the country’s interior, you can discover numerous impressive sights. If you prefer to relax on beautiful beaches, Albania also has a few gems for you. No matter where you are in the country, you will be welcomed by the locals with overwhelming hospitality. The country between the Adriatic and Ionian Sea will enchant you!
